Swiss Re has a long tradition of engagement in worthy causes, especially in the communities where it has offices. Universities and their students play a vital role in making a city an attractive, dynamic, and inspiring environment. In light of its deep ties to the city of Zurich and its interest in helping student life flourish there, Swiss Re marked its 100th anniversary in 1963 by founding the Stiftung for Studentenhäuser (Student Dormitory Foundation) – with a mission to offer affordable housing to students in Zurich – and by building the student dormitory Witellika.
On the occasion of its 150th anniversary, Swiss Re is underscoring its commitment to the cause. To ensure the availability of attractive, affordable student housing for future generations of students in Zurich, the Swiss Re Foundation is supporting the interior renovation of the dormitory Witellika, to be completed in 2013. As Zurich housing costs continue to climb, this investment comes at a particularly good time for young people with modest budgets.
The renovation program further reflects Swiss Re's longstanding and fruitful relationships with the two leading academic institutions in Zurich, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) and the University of Zurich. By supporting the students of today, Swiss Re helps its academic partners cultivate the leaders of tomorrow.
