The future of risk

In building up its Humanitarian Leadership and Management School (HLMS), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) benefited from intellectual input from Swiss Re experts and financial contributions from the Swiss Re Foundation.

The partnership represented a significant opportunity for the ICRC and Swiss Re organisations and staffs to expand their professional network, be exposed to a complementary yet distinct professional culture and connect with the leadership challenges that both organisations face. The goal was to build on each other’s knowledge and expertise and identify areas of synergy, taking the needs, strategies, policies and parameters of each into consideration.

The Swiss Re Foundation supported activities in the following areas during the ICRC’s first years of operation:

  • Exchanging expertise
  • Leveraging business knowledge
  • Addressing common leadership challenges
  • Joint learning between Swiss Re and ICRC leadership

The partnership has enabled Swiss Re to extend its long-term humanitarian partnership with ICRC and become its cooperation partner in the field of leadership development on a continuing basis.
