We want to see more communities gain access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene and to ensure that water is distributed fairly and managed sustainably, particularly where it is scarce.
Social businesses have become particulary creative and effective at delivering basic goods and services like water and sanitation to people who lack them. That's why in 2015 we redesigned the International ReSource Award to focus specifically on entrepreneurial solutions for resilience in water management.
We support enterprises that provide drinking water and sanitation, manage excreta and wastewater and collect and use water to produce food at prices even the poorest can afford. Many of these enterprises have achieved, or promise to achieve, financial sustainability and scalability by using simple, thrifty technologies and training locals to keep up water infrastructure.
