Solutions for longer lives
In a nutshell
|Location||Mexico, Spain, Italy and United Kingdom|
Increases in human life expectancy and demographic ageing are among the major challenges facing society today. Despite a north-south disparity, since 2009 the number and proportion of elderly people has grown faster than ever in both developed and developing countries, giving rise to significant economic, social and educational challenges as well as barely explored opportunities.
The Impact Hub Fellowship is a topic-focused entrepreneurial idea award and one-year incubation programme designed to attract, select and support early-stage, impact-orientated entrepreneurs in realising their innovations for a more sustainable world. In 2013 the Swiss Re Foundation, Impact Hub and AXA launched an international start-up support programme to help entrepreneurs develop innovative ideas that address the challenges and opportunities of rising life expectancy and demographic ageing.
The Fellowship was open to purpose-driven entrepreneurs who aim to revolutionise the status quo and see collaboration as the most powerful tool to generate positive impact. To qualify, candidates were required to propose scalable solutions in the form of products or services that enable changes in practice or behaviour in one or more of the following areas:
- Organisation of family life
- Education system
- Corporate economic life
- Public services
Implemented in Italy (Milan), Mexico (Oaxaca), Spain (Madrid) and the United Kingdom (London), the Impact Hub Fellowship for Longer Lives first identified 12 promising initiatives and then awarded four of them a one-year fellowship that afforded access to seed funding, focused skill development and valuable networks.
This partnership came into being on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Swiss Re.
