The fight for Human Rights
In a nutshell
|Sustainable Development Goal||Reduced Inequalities|
Human Rights Watch (HWR) is dedicated to protecting the human rights of people around the globe. By focusing international attention where human rights are violated, HRW gives voice to the oppressed and holds oppressors accountable for their crimes.
Thanks in part to support from the Swiss Re Foundation, HRW has remained a principled voice for the defence of human rights amidst significant external challenges. Today the human rights movement is grappling with an unprecedented global crackdown on civil society. It is also dealing with crises worldwide – from Syria to South Sudan – as well as the largest flow of refugees since World War II.
In addition to contributing significantly to HRW’s global efforts in defense of human rights, the Swiss Re Foundation partners closely with HRW’s Zurich office at local events and meetings. In addition, some HRW staff have shared insights from their daily work in conflict and crisis situations in ‘Lunch and Learn’ Sessions for employees of Swiss Re.
